Oregon Mountaineering Accidents (OMA)

Oregon Mountaineering Accidents (OMA)

these guys don't seem super appreciative of RMI. Don't know what the background is. At any rate, it's good to read over the things and see what went wrong. Might give some insight into a condition that you don't want to find yourself in later.

more motivation

Gordon called again last night.

Reiterated that it would be a good thing to do.

I had mentioned a couple of nights ago the fact that these types of things are things that are easier now than they ever will be in the future. It will be easier for our bodies to do it this year than next, etc. I think about this a lot with my desire to go see Mt Everest. It's going to be easier for my body to do it now than at any point in the future. I'm not saying that I'm in better shape now than I ever will be in the future, but my body is younger now than it will be at any point in the future (duh!), and that makes a difference.

There are many different ways to break down the cost.

The seminar is $1,200. Plane tickets to seattle would be around $300. If you rented all of your equipment, it would be close to $600. Travel from seattle to mt. rainier: ?, hotel for the night(s) before and after: ?

the climbing school that we'd probably take if we went. The Camp Muir Seminar.. $1,195 for five days.

The most interesting time is september 12-16. that would give me time to get in shape, if I push myself. I really need to do that.

this is a slick page where a guy has a story about his ascent, and various pictures. Well worth the read.

the seed

so Gordon and myself were talking a couple of nights ago, and a special was on the National Geographic channel about mountain climbing. Gordon was watching it.

They had a couple that were doing a mount everest ascent, and we started talking about climbing it. A quick websearch later, and we had some links
